My Story
I was raised on a working cattle ranch in Wyoming. I went to school, in  a small town school, with all of the cliques and dynamics you might imagine.
I spent the next 30 years working all over the western United States, doing environmental restoration, and weed control with 1,000 goats.

I worked as the Nursery Director for Colorado River Indian Tribes, in their Native Plant Nursery, then worked for the University of Arizona Extension, in Parker AZ.

I built a very successful side business that was making me tons of money. So I moved to an island in the Caribbean. One day just like a switch was flipped, the government implemented a new regulation, and my business shut down.  I literally ignored my own knowledge, and what I had been preaching for 20 plus years. I had not diversified my income so that if something stopped, I would be able to focus on another stream of income.
About that time my father passed away, and I found myself moving back to Wyoming to run the ranch. I learned my lesson and have implemented several streams of income from the ranch. I decided that the time was finally right to share my experience, and expertise with small farmers and ranchers everywhere.
I hope to meet you and learn about your small farm operation, and

Chapter 1: Small Farm Big Life
For the last 5 years  I have devoted much of my time helping people learn to operate a small or backyard farm. Running a large operation is much the same as a small operation, except you multiply both the cost and the return.
Gone is the day you can be just a farmer, or a rancher. You must now be an Agtrepreneur.  You must learn how to run balance sheets, do much of your own building, mechanic work, and marketing. Most people that just want to work the land, fail on the last step all together.

Chapter 2: The Beginning
When I moved back to the ranch I saw most of my neighbors, and family struggling with this last part.  They were essentially living in the middle of the 1900's where you just raised your livestock, took them to the sale barn and received whatever the cattle buyers decided the market was on that day.
I decided that I had to diversify, I had to implement new strategies, that would give me multiple streams of income, in a small way that would in turn, not only improve my bottom line, but also show  others ways to  improve their operation without going through the disasters I did. Many of these were the same strategies I have been using on my own operation for the last 30 years when I was waiting for goat contracts.  I also spent my time visiting, farms, and ranchers wherever I was working to learn about their success, and struggles. I have compiled, an amazing amount of information, that I feel is important to share with others.
